Care & Cleaning Instructions
Adopt the longstanding French tradition to ensure the longevity of your bedding: rotate your sheets with a set in the closet, a set on the bed, and a set in the wash.
Home laundering is recommended for all of our linens, except where dry cleaning is indicated on the product label. We strongly recommend that you pre-wash all linens before use and wash them separately—particularly items containing any polyester. Polyester pills and sheds onto natural fibers, diminishing the fabric’s smoothness and softness. In addition, garments with buttons or zippers can damage delicate linens during the wash. Select a gentle laundry detergent. Products with bluing agents or whiteners are not recommended for colored linens, as they may progressively fade the colors.
An important note about shrinkage: Cotton is a natural fiber and will shrink slightly—ranging from 4% to 8% of the original size after machine washing, depending on the fiber content. Items washed and dried at high temperatures may shrink even more. The sizing of our products allows for this expected shrinkage.
WASHING BEDDING
We recommend using our specially formulated Linen Wash by Le Blanc for all of your bedding laundering needs. Linens should be separated into light and dark colors. Avoid overloading the machine to prevent breaking long fibers, such as those found in Egyptian cotton. Whether cotton, pure linen, or a cotton/linen blend, bedding should be washed in warm water with a gentle laundering agent, followed by a cold rinse.
Remove washed bedding promptly from the machine to help reduce wrinkling. Shaking out damp linens before drying will also reduce wrinkles and quicken drying time.
WASHING BATH LINENS
We recommend using our specially made Towel Wash by Le Blanc for all of your bath laundering needs.
Terry Towels: Washing terry towels before use begins the "breaking in" process, making them softer and more absorbent. Several washings are required for 100% cotton terry towels to achieve their maximum absorbency, softness, and fluff.
Honeycomb Towels: These lightweight, waffle-weave towels are loosely woven for absorbency, dry very quickly, and are pre-shrunk. White honeycomb towels with colored borders may be bleached safely to maintain brightness.
Launder towels in warm water using a gentle detergent. Fabric softener is not recommended, as it reduces absorbency. Tumble dry on low heat until slightly damp; this helps preserve softness and maximize moisture absorption.
WASHING TABLE LINENS
We recommed using our Linen Wash by Le Blanc for all of your bedding laundering needs.
Table linens should be washed in warm water with a gentle detergent, followed by a cold rinse. Fabric softeners are not recommended. Remove linens promptly from the wash and shake out to minimize wrinkles before drying.
Our Jacquard-woven table linens are pre-shrunk with an easy-care finish. Dry cleaning is not recommended, as laundering "relaxes" the fibers, enhancing the intricacy of Jacquard-woven patterns.
HOW TO DRY
Line drying linens outdoors is ideal, leaving them nearly wrinkle-free and smelling fresh. However, machine drying on proper settings can also yield good results.
Avoid over-drying by selecting a moderate heat setting. Choose the “permanent press” cycle, which includes a cool-down phase to reduce wrinkles. Most dryers also offer an “air” cycle that tumbles without heat. Remove linens promptly, smooth them out, and finger-press details like flanges on pillow shams, borders on flat sheets, and edges of tablecloths or napkins. Then fold carefully.
HOW TO IRON
Proper washing and drying will minimize wrinkles, but fine linens—especially when new—do wrinkle naturally. Over time, as they soften, linens will wrinkle less.
Use a good steam iron for both bedding and table linens. Avoid spray starch, as it can build up on your iron and may attract silverfish during storage. If you wish to iron your linens, follow these guidelines:
Bedding: Iron bed linens while they are still damp. For embroidered items, iron on the reverse side to protect the embroidery. Refer to the sewn-in label for universal ironing symbols.
Table Linens: Iron table linens while damp. Ironing Jacquard-woven linens enhances their three-dimensional woven patterns.
STORING LINENS
Store linens on a flat surface. If shelving is wooden, line it with tissue paper—some woods, like cedar, contain oils that may damage linens.
Avoid exposure to direct sunlight or moonlight to prevent fading. Do not leave table linens on the table where they may be exposed to prolonged sunlight.
CARE OF DOWN PRODUCTS
Duvets, pillows, and featherbeds should be fluffed daily to maintain their loft and fullness. Spot clean stains with a damp cloth and mild soap. Featherbeds or silk duvets should be dry cleaned only.
For full cleaning of down duvets and pillows, laundering is preferable to dry cleaning. Washing rejuvenates the down, restoring loft, fluffiness, and freshness. Use a front-loading, extra-capacity washer with mild detergent and warm water.
Important: Do not use top-loading washing machines, as the agitator may damage the delicate cotton cover. Down duvets and pillows love drying in the sun—spread them out on a sheet outdoors and shake them occasionally while drying. Alternatively, tumble dry on medium heat. Ensure they are thoroughly dry before use or storage. Always store in breathable cotton bags, never in plastic.
Use pillow protectors and wash them regularly. A mattress protector over a featherbed is strongly recommended.
